DESCRIPTION:
A lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers at all three University Recreation pools. Their key responsibilities include constantly observing swimmers to prevent accidents and ensure safety, ensuring that all facility rules and regulations are followed by patrons, and acting quickly and efficiently in emergencies including performing rescues and providing first aid or CPR when necessary. Lifeguards must be certified in lifeguarding, CPR, and first aid, and they must maintain their physical fitness and skills through regular training and practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain pool safety both in and outside of the pool and pool deck
- Represent University Recreation in a professional manner at all times
- Greet all patrons as they enter the facility and establish a friendly environment through regular communication with patrons
- Check the pool deck, water area, and safety equipment in preparation for opening the facility and report any maintenance issues
- Make sound operational and personnel decisions based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of all University Recreation policies and procedures
- Ensure the departmental Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is properly implemented as necessary
- Maintain accurate chemical testing inventory
- Ability to set-up/take down facility equipment for programs and special events

REQUIREMENTS:

UNC Charlotte University Recreation is seeking individuals who have experience
lifeguarding, have been employed by UREC for at least 1 semester as a Lifeguard, and currently hold a Lifeguard certification. They will have a general knowledge of pool policies and will aid in creating a positive and welcoming environment in the UREC pool.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and
- appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of EMS.
- Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high
- standard of customer service.
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
- Diffuses problems and situations to the best of ability prior to consulting a manager.
- Handles problems and situations as they arise within the facility when managers are off duty.
- Responsible for maintaining lifeguard rotation during shift
- Responsible for complete chemical and activity reports
- Takes the lead on the setup and cleanup of the various pool activities
- Assist in completing audits for employees
- Assist in planning and facilitating monthly in-services

Qualifications and Certifications:
- Must be currently enrolled student at UNC Charlotte in good academic standing

- One semester or 200 hours must be with UNC Charlotte University Recreation
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid, CPR, AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
- Must attend lifeguard meetings and in-service training monthly
- Must be mature/dependable
- Willing to work morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours as scheduled

UNC Charlotte University Recreation is seeking individuals who have experience teaching swim lessons to all ages. This individual should feel comfortable teaching group, private and semi-private lessons and should have previous experience in creating lesson plans. They should be comfortable working with participants of all ages. They will have a general knowledge of pool policies and will aid in creating a positive and welcoming environment in the UREC pool.
Responsibilities:
- Teach kids, teens, college students and adults how to swim
- Scheduling Semi-Private and Private swim lessons
- Be familiar with Swim Lesson curriculum
- Cover all materials required in a level
- Communication with parents, participants and Coordinator of Aquatics & Open Recreation
- Positive representation of self, department, division, and university
Required Skills:
- All instructors must go through UREC swim lesson training
- Previous Swim Instructor experience is preferred
- Basic strokes (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly)

A Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading multiple group fitness classes that range in variety and levels from Yoga to Hip Hop. This includes counting, cueing, organizing choreography, and much more.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe and fun environment for participants
- Promote knowledge of proper group fitness components, i.e.: warm up, aerobic exercise, flexibility, cool down, etc.
- Be knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of Group Fitness
- Possess knowledge in a variety of Group Fitness classes

A Field Assistant is responsible for checking ID’s, checking equipment in/out, equipment inventory, selling daily guest passes, providing patrons information regarding University Recreation programs, events, and hours of operation at our Northeast Recreational Field Complex (NRFC).

- Answer phone calls, and be able to provide basic University Recreation information to patrons.

- Screen potential guests for eligibility as per guest pass policies.
- Provide equipment check out services to patrons while inspecting returned equipment for damage.
- To represent the Department of University Recreation in a professional manner at all times.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all patrons.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all Department of University Recreation programs, policies, and procedures.

An Intramural Sports Official is responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures of Intramural Sports. He/she must learn and enforce rules of the sport. All Officials must attend training sessions to learn rules, mechanics, and positioning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Officiate all intramural sport league games and tournaments.
- Attend all officials training clinics.
- Perform scorekeeping responsibilities at games according to program and sport rules and mechanics.
- Assist with preparation, tear-down and inspection of the game site.
- Provide a safe environment for participants to compete.
- Locate team captains, sign in players, check eligibility of team members 15 minutes prior to the start of the contest.
- Selections for officials will be made based upon pre-season test scores, performance at pre-season clinics, and evaluations at live scrimmages.
- Report results and scores of intramural games to the Sport Supervisors and DSE.
- Call all intramural games with complete honesty and integrity.
- Run pregame captains’ meetings prior to each game to highlight important rules, regulations, modifications and any questions that may arise.
- Completion of availability through scheduling website.
- Develop knowledge of the rules, positioning, and mechanics for each sport.
- Act as a customer service representative for all participants and spectators.
- Verify participant eligibility by ensuring all participants have a 49er ID card and are listed on their team roster

Brand Ambassadors are responsible for the distribution and implementation of all outreach and engagement strategies for University Recreation. Members of this team will prepare and staff promotion tables, update all departmental signage around campus, and act as guest experience experts for our services. This group will also maintain all social media platforms for the department. The Brand Ambassadors should be dedicated to learning all facets of the department and hold an interest in promoting these offerings. This group will also work closely with the Creative Design Team and their supervisor to plan and execute signature events for the department, such as RecFest, the Gold Rush 5k, and the On the Green Golf Tournament.
Job Responsibilities:
- Possess knowledge of/demonstrate an interest in learning about the programmatic areas within University Recreation
- Plan and facilitate promotional tables and events around campus to engage students with our brand
- Facilitate presentations to the University community upon request (academic courses, Residence Halls, Greek Life Organizations, and New Student Orientation sessions, etc.)
- Maintain all social media platforms for the department, including: Instagram, Twitter, & Facebook
- Research trends in the industry and present campaign ideas to their supervisor for implementation

Members should be dedicated to learning all facets of the department and possess an interest in promoting these offerings. This group will also work closely with the Promotional Team and their supervisor to plan and execute signature events for the department, such as RecFest, the Gold Rush 5k, and the On the Green Golf Tournament.

The purpose of this job is to supervise the Hayes Field Complex (fields 11, 12, and 13) for practices and events for Sport Clubs. This position requires you to be a liaison between the sport clubs, University Recreation personnel and the UNC Charlotte campus as a whole. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

- Work scheduled shifts unless prior arrangements have been made with your direct supervisor
- Work independently and in a team setting to complete daily tasks
- Open and close facility and submit daily report
- Enforce parking regulations at designated field spaces

- Event management:

This position requires you to be a liaison between the sport clubs, University Recreation personnel and the UNC Charlotte campus as a whole. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Job Responsibilities:
- Have set office hours during the week to:
- Allow for clubs to meet with you
- Check liability waivers on a regular basis
- Track expenses of assigned clubs
- Ensure proper travel documentation is completed
- Submit facility requests for club events
- The ability to:
- Work one or more games most weekends
- Receive van certification
- Enforce parking regulations at designated field spaces
- Keep constant contact with officers of assigned clubs
- Attend practices of assigned clubs
- Event management:
- Help clubs with set-up/ tear-down of campus events
- Provide all needs outlined in the facility request form
- Ensure safety of all in attendance
- Work with EMTs if a player or attendee is injured
- Game site facility management
- Act as a customer service representative for all participants and spectators
Requirements:
- Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing at UNC Charlotte
- Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the University at the time of hire and must remain in good standing throughout the course of UREC employment.
- Previous customer service experience is preferred
- Ability to work effectively as a part of a team and/or individually
- Willing to work morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours as scheduled
- Valid driver’s license
- CPR/AED/First aid certified or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Without assistance.
- Verbally communicate to participants and visiting teams.
- Visually recognize emergencies.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This position requires outstanding communication and leadership skills to greet the patrons in the Strength Training & Conditioning Ares in UREC. General duties include cleaning cardiovascular and strength equipment, offering assistance and/or spotting of patrons, suggesting proper exercise form, upholding UREC policies and regulations and any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Strength Training & Conditioning or Professional Staff of University Recreation.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A Strength Training and Conditioning Room Supervisor must:
- Be currently enrolled student at UNC Charlotte and in good academic standing (GPA of at least 2.5)
- Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the University at the time of hire and must remain in good standing throughout the course of UREC employment.
- Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, and Risk Management training within the 30 days of employment
- Be enthusiastic, hardworking, highly motivated, and possess excellent customer service skills.
- Have superior communication skills in order to interact effectively with co-workers and patrons of the facility.
- Ability to lift up to 45lbs
- Have a strong background of resistance training and fitness
- Have knowledge of proper use of all weight training equipment and safety skills.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week and be available to work weekends and potential holidays
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current College of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences major or related major, preferred kinesiology/exercise science/strength and conditioning
- Obtained or consider pursuing a certification through a recognized strength & conditioning/fitness organization such as NSCA, ACSM, NASM, ACE, or another NCCA accredited organization and/or have a background in exercise science.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent University Recreation department in a professional manner at all times
- Be visible and available on the UREC floors at all times.
- Acknowledge, greet and help patrons of the facility whenever possible.
- Learn proper spotting techniques and assist patrons when they need help.
- Have a basic understanding of general resistance training movements, i.e. proper form, what muscles are trained, etc.
- Have a basic understanding of strength and cardiovascular equipment
- How the machines work, different program options, which muscles are trained etc.
- Ensuring that equipment is used for its intended purpose
- Know all emergency procedures (Risk Management Modules, STC Modules, EAP)
- Enforce and adhere to all posted policies and rules
- Give accurate information to those who seek it. If you do not know the answer, find someone who does and obtain the information from them.
- Complete required cleaning tasks during shifts.
- Inspect machines for damaged or defective parts, and complete maintenance work orders
- Attend all staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training that have been termed mandatory.
- Maintain a professional appearance while on the clock, including: UREC employee shirt, name tag on at all times, alert disposition while on the floor, etc.
- Arrive on time to your shift.
- Perform orientations to patrons of UREC for strength and cardiovascular equipment
- Assist with special projects and tasks as assigned by UREC Professional Staff including Building Managers
- Respond to emails & other messaging services in a timely manner

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Personal Trainers at University Recreation are responsible for the motivation and guidance of their clients through development of an exercise program specifically organized to meet strength and fitness goals of their clientele. Persona Trainers are to lead the clientele and ensure that they meet the program goals by providing hands-on education and support.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
A Personal Trainer with University Recreation must:
- Be currently enrolled student at UNC Charlotte and in good academic standing (GPA of at least 2.5)
- Must be in good academic and conduct standing with the University at the time of hire and must remain in good standing throughout the course of UREC employment.
- Have and maintain a current Personal Trainer certification
- Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, and Risk Management training within the 30 days of employment
- Be enthusiastic, hardworking, highly motivated, and possess excellent customer service skills.
- Have superior communication skills in order to interact effectively with co-workers and patrons of the facility.
- Ability to lift up to 45lbs
- Have adequate knowledge of Personal Training concepts (Resistance Training, Cardiovascular Training, Strength & Conditioning, etc)
- Have at least a year available to work for University Recreation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has obtained a certification from NSCA, ACSM, NASM, ACE, or other ncca-accredited organization
- An exercise science or related degree
- Previous experience Personal Training

- Education and Knowledge in evidence-based exercise prescription
- Advanced knowledge of exercise progressions and modifications
- Demonstration of proper exercise technique and form
- Ability to conduct Fitness Assessments
- Provide a safe and fun learning environment for clients
- Provide customer service and information to potential clients
- Knowledge of UREC standards and policies
- Monitoring of clients progress and adapting plans as necessary
- Participate in Continuing Education Credits (CEC's or CEU's)
- Participate in all mandatory meetings and trainings designated by the Assistant Director of Strength Training & Conditioning
