University Recreation

The University Recreation Center (UREC), opened on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 to keep pace with the demands of Charlotte's growing population, is the first facility to be dedicated solely to health and wellness on UNC Charlotte's campus. More than a gym, this 148,000-square-foot building aims to aid in the development of lifelong, healthy habits for all users regardless of physical ability.

Indoor Pool

UREC's Indoor Pool (located on the first floor of the University Recreation Center) offers open swim year-round featuring 4 lap lanes, 2 underwater half basketball courts, a volleyball net, a vortex pool to swim against the current, a zero-entry ramp to provide easy entry for our pool access chair, and a maximum depth of 5 feet. 

Outdoor Pool

UREC's Outdoor Pool (located outdoors on the first floor of the University Recreation Center) offers recreational swim seasonally from mid-April through mid-October (weather dependent), featuring a leisure space with in-water lounge chairs,shallow access, picnic tables, umbrellas, and a full water volleyball court.

Belk Gymnasium offers over 100,000 square feet of space to meet the needs of the UNC Charlotte community for recreation. Completely renovated in 2015, Belk Gymnasium features three multipurpose hardwood basketball and volleyball courts, two racquetball courts, badminton courts, dedicated locker rooms and a 25 yard by 25 meter pool.

Belk Pool: Roy Fielding Aquatic Center (RFAC)

Belk Gym's Pool, also known as Roy Fielding Aquatic Center (RFAC), located on the ground floor of Belk Gymnasium offers convenient morning and lunchtime open swim. This pool measures 25-meters by 25-yards with the deepest part reaching 13 feet. Roy R. Fielding was a fixture at UNC Charlotte from 1977 through his retirement, serving as lecturer, aquatics director and senior lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology. 

Established in 2011, the Northeast Recreational Field Complex (NRFC) features over fifteen acres of synthetic turf fields for soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, and softball with lights for night time use. NRFC is home base to several intramural sports teams and open recreation opportunities. Equipment is available for check out.

Hayes Field Complex, established in 2011, is home to three University Recreation fields; two fields utilizing natural grass (fields 11 & 12) and one (field 13) synthetic turf. All fields are fenced in and illuminated for night time use. These fields are the home of many Sport Clubs for practices and games. There is no equipment check out so make sure you bring your own!

The Calisthenic Outdoor Recreation Equipment (CORE) is conveniently located adjacent to the on-campus greenway. CORE was made possible through a partnership with the Levine Scholars Program. Students Alex Caviness (2020), Esteban Mendieta (2018), Gabriella Kroska (2018), and Matt Lowry (2018) worked with campus and community partners for more than two years to develop this outdoor, cost-effective, accessible, and sustainable approach to community fitness. CORE is open to anyone in the Charlotte community at all hours.
